For two decades hitters have been seeking out the latest and greatest composite bats. While fastpitch softball bats are nearly always made from composite, baseball bats continue to split between alloy and composite (and sometimes both) constructions. However, one of the main differences between the two materials is that composite-barreled bats will require a break-in period. This is because the microfibers that intertwine need to compress before the bat reaches its' maximum performance threshold. While there isn't an exact science to breaking in a new composite baseball bat, there are a couple of tips you can follow to break your bat in for the season ahead.

Composite Bat Break-In Tips
Breaking in your composite bat is fun, easy, and can be done in less than an hour. To properly break in your composite bat, we recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real baseballs.
Start off by swinging at about 50% of your typical swing. Slowly work your way up to full strength over the first 100 swings. Be sure to rotate the barrel ¼” after each swing to ensure you break-in the entire composite barrel. NEVER break-in your bat at a batting cage that uses yellow dimpled balls. Yellow dimpled balls are very dense and can damage your bat and decrease its lifespan. Stick to soft toss, front toss, and tee work as you break-in your composite bat.
