Oops They Did it Again – Brazil’s Repeatedly Delayed Tourist Visa Requirement — Half Past First Cast (2024)

As we’ve chronicled before (here and here and here), the Brazilian government has been trying to reinstate visa requirements for travelers from Canada, Australia and the United States for some time. Originally they were going to be required starting October of 2023. Then it got pushed to January of 2024, and subsequently to April 10, 2024.

Due to continuing troubles getting the system to function properly, now they have announced that the date will be moved back a year – to April 10, 2025.

This is good news for those of you who might want to take a peaco*ck bass trip in during the 2024/2025 season. It’s one less administrative hurdle to go through and one less cost associated with the trip. I can tell you from my experiences in 2011 and 2012 that getting the visa was a pain in the butt. There’s no guarantee that the electronic version will ever go online, or that it will be more reliable, but at least they’ve done the right thing by giving themselves more lead time to get it right, rather than just another 3 month extension.

Even if you’re eventually required to get one, it’s worth the stress. The peaco*cks are big and mean and eat topwaters, and the Amazon is an amazing experience.
