Seize the Grey won the 149th Preakness Stakes on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore by 2 1/4 lengths over Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan.
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas won his seventh Preakness Stakes. Lukas, who is 88 years old, won his first Preakness Stakes in 1980. It's his first Preakness win since Oxbow won in 2013.
Jockey Jaime Torres was running in his first Triple Crown race and led his horse to victory.
There will be no Triple Crown winner in 2024 as Mystik Dan gave a good effort but was unable to chase down Seize the Grey down the stretch.

Funny little aside: the share of a racehorse concept is now a two-time Triple Crown race winner. Last year’s Derby winner, Mage, was owned by Commonwealth, a similar concept to MyRacehorse.

When I spoke to Bob Baffert earlier this year, he talked about D. Wayne Lukas and how he remembered as a young trainer Lukas taking on the glare of the spotlight. The two chatted earlier this week on the backside of Pimlico.

All the horses in the lead-up to the Preakness Stakes seem pretty calm and ready to go. We'll see if there are any issues with the load-in, but there are only eight horses in this race compared to the Derby, which had 20.
There was a brief delay as one horse had issues getting into the starting gate.

Anticipation before the Preakness always is on the Triple Crown and what the Kentucky Derby champion will do.
It's a tough turnaround for the winner to bounce back and win again after most of the horses in the field didn't run two weeks ago.

Keep an eye on Uncle Heavy. OK, admittedly this is a Philly girl saying this and he’s a Philly horse, with all sorts of connections to the area. He’s also named after a former wrestler. C’mon now!
But besides the great geographical lineage and storyline, Uncle Heavy has run and won twice on muddy tracks. The trainer wasn’t sure about entering him in this race but with a push from the ownership group, here he is.
Wayne Lukas, 88 years young, wins the Preakness. The legendary trainer's horse, Seize the Grey, goes to the front and stays there, holding off a challenge from Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan.
Seize The Grey ended the Triple Crown quest of Mystik Dan at the Preakness Stakes on Saturday. Seize The Grey fended off a late push from the Kentucky Derby winner to win the seventh Preakness for 88-year-old trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
"We had some big expectations, but this exceeds all those expectations." Seize the Grey paid $21.60 to win, $8.40 to place and $4.40 to show. Mystik Dan paid $4.20 and $2.80, while third-place Catching Freedom paid $3.20 to show.
Dornoch won the 156th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, beating a handful of contenders widely believed to have a greater chance of winning. “It was perfect,” jockey Luis Saez said of Dornoch's run to fend off Mindframe, who finished second. Sierra Leone finished third.
Total amount of entry fees an owner of a horse running in the Preakness Stakes must pay. The initial cost is $15,000, with another payment of that same amount owed if their horse makes the starting gate.
Seize the Grey went off at 9-1, one of the longest shots on the board. Mystik Dan finished second in the field of eight horses running in the $2 million, 1 3/16-mile race.
No one in the race's 149-year history has saddled more horses in the Preakness than Lukas with 48 since debuting in 1980 and winning that one with Codex. He had two in this time, with Just Steel finishing fifth, but Seize the Grey – owned by 2,570 people involved in the MyRacehorse group – delivered the victory.
His dam (mother) is Smart Shopping whose sire was the Canadian Hall of Famer Smart Strike. Seize the Grey was bought for $300,000 from the Mill Ridge Sales consignment at The Saratoga Sale, Fasig Tipton's select yearling sale in 2022. Seize the Grey is owned by the MyRacehorse microsyndicate founded by Michael Behrens.
Dornoch pulls off an upset to win the first Belmont Stakes run at Saratoga Race Course at 17-1. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — When Luis Saez first rode Dornoch at Saratoga Race Course last summer, he told trainer Danny Gargan, “You have the Derby winner.”
The syndicate has 2,570 different owners who bought up 5,000 shares of the colt at US$127 a share. His name was submitted in a contest administered by MyRacehorse and chosen by his shareholders. Seize the Grey is trained by U.S. Racing Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas.
