Cobra staff player Rickie Fowler is one of the most colorful, popular players on Tour and 2023 saw him elevate his game and re-establish himself among the game’s top players after a frustrating spell in the wilderness. Fowler notched up his first win in four years at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and also earned a spot on the US Ryder Cup team that was defeated in Rome. It’s great to see Fowler playing well again, so let’s check out the club he’s using this year.

Driver

What Driver Does Rickie Fowler Use?

Fowler is a Cobra-Puma ambassador and as the face of the brand, usually when Cobra bring out a new driver, Fowler puts it in play. The one constant is that he will use the low spin model. So two years ago he was using the LTDx LS driver, last year he switched to the Aerojet LS model and this year he is using the new Cobra Darkspeed LS driver.

We recently tested the Darkspeed LS and we found it to be an excellent driver in the low spin, better player category. The compact head shape and minimalist, dark aesthetic looks great and the performance matches it. It gave us a really penetrating ball flight and a solid feel which makes it one of the best drivers to come out this year as well as being one of the verybest drivers for distance.

Fowler’s choice of shaft is a Mitsubishi Diamana Prototype 70 X shaft.

Fairways

What Fairway Woods Does Rickie Fowler Use?

In contrast to the driver, Fowler has yet to make the switch to the 2024 Cobra fairway woods but we will keep an eye on that as the season progresses. He has an interesting set up as he uses a couple of three-woods with different lofts. One of them is a Cobra Aerojet LS model with around 12.5 degrees of loft and an Aldila Tour Green 75 TX shaft. The other is a Cobra LTDx LS model and it acts as his five-wood with around 18 degrees of loft and a UST Mamiya LINQ M40X 8F5 shaft.He often chops and changes between the two and also leaves one out of the bag in favour of a utility iron when the need arises.

The LS models preferred by Fowler are not themost forgiving fairway woods and are definitely aimed at the better player.

Irons

What Irons Does Rickie Fowler Use?

Moving to the irons and Fowler now uses a set of the newer Cobra King Tour irons. This is quite a change for Fowler who previously used his own prototype butter knife blade irons which are basically for flushers only and offer very little forgiveness. Since making the switch to the more forgiving irons Fowler’s results have certainly improved suggesting that perhaps he has now found the best irons for his game.

Fowler's set goes from four-iron down to pitching wedge and he has KBS Tour shafts. These Tour irons have a touch more forgiveness in the head because of the slight cavity backed design and we were really impressed when we tested them. These are among the best irons for low handicappers and earned a place in our 2023 Editor's Choice.

Wedges

What Wedges Does Rickie Fowler Use?

Fowler had been using some Titleist Vokey SM8's but he switched them out last year for three Cobra King wedges with 54, 56 and 58 degrees of loft. The loft choices are interesting as they’re so tightly grouped together, which is somewhat unusual. He has occasionally used a 60 degree Cobra King lob wedge too and his shaft choice for wedges is KBS Tour 610.

Putter

What Putter Does Rickie Fowler Use?

Fowler was historically one of the world's best putters and used a blade-style putter for most of his career but moved to the larger mallet putter with a longer shaft at the beginning of 2023 after he hit some putts with hiscaddie Ricky Romano's flat stick and immediately took a liking to it. He had Odyssey build him one to the same specs and started seeing impressive results and the Odyssey Versa Jailbird became the equipment story of the year at the 2023 US Open when Fowler was paired in the final group with eventual winner, Wyndham Clark, and both were using the exact same putter. That was not a co-incidence, as Clark explained.

"We were playing at Medalist in Florida, and I hadn't been putting good and I played with Rickie, and he just made every single putt," Clark said.

"Afterwards we were practicing a little bit getting ready for it and I hit a couple and I was like, oh, gosh, this is really nice. So I texted the Odyssey guy, and I said, hey, can you make me Rickie's putter? And he's like, well what specs? I said, the exact same.

"So literally had the exact same putter. And I joked with Rickie today, he changed the grip. He changed the grip and cut it an inch, so i was like, all right, I got to change the grip and cut it an inch."

Fowler managed to make 18 birdies in his first 36 holes that week as he and Clark went head to head. Clark emerged victorious but Fowler would win the Rocket Mortgage Classic later in the secure and also force his way onto the Ryder Cup team, neither of which he would have done without that switch in putter at the beginning of the year. Following that US Open Odyssey reported a huge demand for the putter which they couldn’t keep up with. They released a limited edition which sold out in minutes and even crashed their website.

Ball

What Golf Ball Does Rickie Fowler Use?

In terms of ball, Rickie had been using Titleist's Pro V1 for a long time however he signed with TaylorMade and plays the TP5x ball with a triangle Pix design on them. He actually played a part in the design of this ball and it has since been adopted by other tour players, such as Tommy Fleetwood for example.

What Shoes Does Rickie Fowler Wear?

Fowler has been with Puma since turning pro in 2009 and wears their apparel, accessories and golf shoes.
