Stems are the part of the plant that rises up from the roots in the ground to support the flowers, leaves and seeds above ground. Stems also provide the structure needed for nourishment (food and water) to be transported throughout the plant.

An example of a stem we eat is asparagus. But we eat a lot of others too.
